Elke Moortgat, Internship Coordinator, Nursing, Erasmushogeschool Brussel

Erasmus University College Brussels (EhB) operates with a humanistic vision as a community where students can develop themselves. The institution serves more than 5,000 students and is Brussels’s largest Dutch-speaking university college.

Elke Moortgat holds a dual role within the Nursing programme: internship coordinator (40% of her time) and lecturer/internship supervisor.

Challenge

Moortgat previously managed internship coordination using Excel spreadsheets, finding it cumbersome to track information across multiple files. She stated: “I wanted a more compact overview, where I could quickly access all of a student’s data.”

The organisation sought “a solution that could bring everything together in one system. OnStage offered exactly what I needed: accessibility for both students and teachers.”

Solution

Initial implementation proved difficult due to lack of IT expertise, but with OnStage’s guidance, the system became fully operational. Moortgat noted: “I am now very happy with how things are going, especially when I see how much time we save.”

Key benefits included unified digital record-keeping and improved student assessment consistency. Colleague resistance diminished as “efficiency has increased enormously and it has become easier for everyone.”

The platform’s student-friendly design and integration capabilities proved valuable. Moortgat explained: “OnStage saves me a lot of time and improves the efficiency of our team.”

Result

The institution achieved significant time savings for both educators and students. Moortgat observed: “We can now respond much more quickly to students’ progress, and they can better track their own development.”

She advocated for embracing innovative solutions, noting the organisation now operates “entirely digitally, except for a few daily evaluations on paper. This has enabled me to stay better informed about the students’ progress.”
